Early Warning Alerts

The earlier that genocide and crimes against humanity can be detected, the greater the capacity for the international community to respond effectively. With this in mind, Shared Humanity has developed a system of early warning alerts for gross human rights violations.

Gross Human Rights Violations Watch - There are some early indicators of conditions conducive to gross human rights violations. For example, an atmosphere of hate speech combined with an official system of ethnic classification.

Gross Human Rights Violations Warning - Gross human rights violations appear to be imminent and/or there appears to be a systematic attempt to create the infrastructure and social conditions necessary for gross human rights violations. For example, widespread dehumanising propaganda singling out a particular group, repressive violence, sporadic massacres, the forceable transfer of populations, and extreme polarisation.

Gross Human Rights Violations Emergency - Gross human rights violations are occurring.
